The standardization and accuracy of terminology provide foundation and preconditionfor the modernization and globalization of Chinese architecture study and research. Duringthe academic communication between Chinese and foreign architectural researchers, acommonly-recognized difficulty is detected that the standardization and accuracy ofterminology in architectural papers writing and C-E translation caused difficulty ininformation exchange. In attempt to solve this problem, this paper provided an analyticstudy on the writing and translation of Chinese to English architectural papers in view ofHalliday’s metalinguistic function of language with a level contrastive analysis onvocabulary distinction with the assistance of CAT software. This research adopted casestudy methodology, from authentic translation case analysis; the author elaborated thecollaboration of CAT skills and academic C-E translation to further propose a primaryprobe on the feasibility and prospect in academic C-E translation on the subject ofarchitectural doctoral dissertations with the assistance of a term bank of collectedterminologies in such field applied in a CAT software Trados. In general, this dissertationis a translation project report, an illustration on the superiority of CAT skills in academictranslation as well as a translation research study in view of metalinguistic function onvocabulary level.
