Term translation, which is closely related to interdisciplinary research, has already become an important element of interdisciplinary research.Terms related to disciplines are professional and interdisciplinary. Thus, term translation is not only an important content of academic research, but also a major issue in the translation of academic texts. Therefore, based on translation practice, the translator studies the translation of terms related to linguistics, biology, biotechnology, etc.in the source text. This report excerpts Chapter Five,Six and Seven of the informative text,The Evolution of Language,as the translation material. This translation material includes a large number of arcane terms of linguistics, biology, biotechnology, etc.,and its language is extremely professional and scientific. In view of this phenomenon, the translator chooses the general theory of terminology as the guidance for term translation, and also studies scholars’ relevant research findings at home and abroad. On the basis of the practice-oriented principles of term standardization in the general theory of terminology, the translator introduces principles of accuracy, transparency, monosemy, systematization, conciseness, scientificity and consistency, and also explores the application of these principles in term translation. Therefore, guided by the general theory of terminology, the translator applies seven principles of term standardization to term translation, proposes seven translation techniques, which include literal imitation, paraphrase, conception transformation, addition, omission, annotation and fait accompli translation, and analyzes relevant examples to further indicate that the above principles and translation techniques are explanatory and persuasive in the translation practice, thereby expecting to provide readers with a reference in term translation.
