As the culture communication of China and foreign countries increases,interpreting is playing an important role in satisfying people’s different needs of colorfulculture. The ways that people get news are in varied forms with the development ofinformation technology. PBS NewsHour, a program that has a long history, is wellknown for having different interviewees from different social background like officials,professionals, and some ordinary people. The program’s topic is always social and hot.Therefore, from PBS NewsHour, we can know and understand more information.The traditional standard of translation is faithfulness, expressiveness, and elegance.But, if you can achieve faithfulness and expressiveness in the interpretation, you are agood interpreter. This report takes the PBS NewsHour as an interpretation case toanalyze how to improve the quality of interpretation from the perspective of interpretivetheory. Besides discussing the problems in the simultaneous interpretation process, thisreport also elaborates on “Chinglish” and “Westernized Chinese”, two factors affectingthe reproduction quality. By defining them and analyzing their features, the author givessome suggestions on how to avoid them in interpretation.The report consists of four Chapters. The first chapter is the translation projectdescription that introduces the source of this interpretation and the features of PBSNewsHour interviews. The second chapter introduces the preparatory work beforetranslation, which includes interpretive theory, translation principles, translation tools,information collection and how to control interpretation’s time and quality. The thirdchapter is the translation case study and it is the core part of the report. The authoranalyzes varied interpretation strategies and methods from lexical, syntactic and textuallevels. The fourth chapter is a summary of translation practice. The author summarizesthe problems in translation process. In a word, the author presents this report in the hopeof helping interpreters improve the quality of their reproduction.
