A Practice Report On Translating Welding Procedure Of HPR1000 Nuclear Power Project

With the increasing development of China's nuclear power industry,the requirements for safety technology have been continuously improved.Most of the technical instructions for the construction of the “HPR1000” nuclear reactor,which equips with the most advanced technology,adopt international top-level programs.The welding procedure runs through the entire process of construction,operation and maintenance of the nuclear power plant.Therefore,it is of great importance.The technical text is introduced from the international advanced foreign drawings and procedures in English.A translation team with high quality and high efficiency rises in response to a great deal of text needing to be translated.In Aug.2018,the translator participated in this translation team,and was responsible for the translation of welding procedure text of “HPR1000” early-stage construction project.This text,about 30,000 words,mainly consists of the welding process,the introduction to tools and the acceptance criteria,and so on.The text of the welding procedure technology has striking linguistic characteristics with strong professionalism and logic.Inevitably,in the process of translation practice,the translator encountered many problems,such as lexical level shifts,semantic logic analysis,and stylistic unification.Meanwhile,issues of teamwork and quality control also were the problems in a translation project team.Based on the translation practice,this report introduces the translation project,analyzes the laws of translating welding procedure text from various aspects,and summarizes the shortcomings and experience of translation practice.This report includes five chapters.The first chapter introduces the background and significance of the report;the second chapter details the translation project from the source text and the translation practice process;the third chapter is the case analysis of the translation strategy from lexical,semantic,and stylistic aspects;the fourth chapter explains the problems and solutions of translation practice;and the last chapter is a summary of the full report.
