In comparison with translation, the features of real-time and occasional of interpretinggive more room for the subjectivity of the interpreter. There are many former studies onthis aspect. However some of them focus on one type of interpreting, lacking ofcomparison beyond the boundary of one certain type. And their approaches of research aremainly qualitative rather than quantitative. In this study, we are going to analyze the subjectivity of the interpreter from manydifferent perspectives combining three theoretical frameworks: cross-culturalcommunication (macro-level), adaptive theory (meso-level) and interpretive theory(micro-level). Both quantitative and qualitative research methods would be combinedtogether. The objectives to be studied in this paper are: how interpreters handle theproperty of interpreting and work initiatively; the requirement of interpreting to theinterpreter; and how interpreters work differently in various kinds of press conferences. The results of this studied shows that interpreter’s subjectivity is manifested in theproperty, purpose and process of interpreting. Specifically, the natural property ofinterpreting is communication. The purpose of interpreting is to achieve accurate, prompt, fluent and pleasant communication. In the process of interpreting, interpreters use theirprofessional qualities, knowledge accumulation, outstanding memory and reaction, andlogic ability to achieve good effects of interpreting.
