A Report On Guide Interpreting At Longmen Grottoes

This report aims to study the intercultural communicative barriers in guideinterpreting and analyze the approaches to solve these barriers from the perspective ofSkopostheorie. The author will implement an analytic work on the interpreting taskthrough her own experience to achieve the following targets. With the boomingtourism, it is more frequent for people with different cultural backgrounds tocommunicate. The guide interpreter is more like of a “cultural ambassador” ratherthan simply being a megaphone. The priority of this report is to help the interpreter tofind effective measures to carry out active self-adjustment and better bilateralcommunication. Then, this report focuses on the coping strategies for overcoming theintercultural communicative barriers according to the characteristics of guideinterpreting, such as the limited time and mobility. The research method adopted inthis report is mainly the qualitative approach. In some examples, the author alsoapplies the descriptive and analytical approach.The proper strategies to reach the goal of intercultural communication are themain topics in this paper. After the confirmation of the task, the interpreter issupposed to systemize the relevant corpus and make a thorough preparatory scheduleand emergency plan of the potential difficulties. Based on the preparation, interpretingprocess and after-task evaluations, the author summarizes the success and failures inthis task and raised relevant questions for providing guidance in guide interpreting.The purpose of this report lies in the summary of appropriate interpretingstrategies and study of the guide interpreting. For the interpreters who are interested inthis field, this report can be regarded as an introductory material to remind them oftheir roles and the tactics in the task, so as to achieve intercultural communicationeffectively.
