On Overcoming The Intercultural Ommunicative Barriers In Guide Interpreting Rom He Perspective Of Skopostheorie

With the ongoing trend of globalization, it is more frequent for people withdifferent cultural backgrounds to communicate together. Tourism, taken as the easiestand most enjoyable way for this intercultural communication, continues its prosperousdevelopment in the new decade of21stcentury. As an indispensable language “bridge”in this intercultural communication, guide interpreters basically serve to provideforeign tourists with necessary information translated in their mother tongue alongtheir traveling. Their master of both languages is a fundamental basis to achieve awholly qualified service. However, these language bridges have to do more thanenough. Due to the discrepancy between cultures, it’s inevitable to come across theintercultural communicative barriers in this process. If these barriers cannot be dealtwith properly, the efforts to achieve successful guide interpreting will be put in vain.How to tackle this problem becomes the key to a good effective communication. Via abrief research, we find studies about guide interpreting and studies on interculturalcommunication are prevalent for the present, but the focus is mostly on theimprovement of skills for a better guide interpreting or intercultural communicativestudy in other fields. The intercultural communicative study applied into guideinterpreting is rare to find. It’s statistically convinced that guide interpreting, as anincreasingly growing and specialized professional interpreting, is entitled totheoretical support for overcoming the intercultural communicative barriers.Viewing from the perspective of skopostheorie, the purposes of tourism andguide interpreting will be examined explicitly. The three rules in skopostheorie,namely the skopos rule, intratextual and intertextual coherence rule and theirhierarchical connection will be brought into analysis, considering the unique featuresof guide interpreting. Then the author solidly summarizes the properties of guideinterpreting as tourist-oriented, informative and culture-loaded, and seeks out theinitiator, receiver, time and place factors needed in translation brief which is made inadvance to better serve the purpose of this interpreting. At the same time, bycontrasting guide interpreting and other interpreting types in the intercultural regard,guide interpreters are inherently to meet more intercultural communicative barriers. Inthe following chapters, several possible reasons for these barriers in linguistic formswill be discussed and many strategies for flexibly overcoming these barriers will besuggested afterwards.To sum up all the above analysis, we can easily draw the conclusion thatskopostheorie plays an important part in overcoming the intercultural communicativebarriers and the optional strategies proposed on different applicable occasions arequite feasible and practical.
