Scenic spot introductions are direct and important channels of communicationbetween sellers of tourist products and potential consumers. The C-E translation ofscenic spot introductions plays a significant role in attracting tourists, enhancingChina’s international image and promoting intercultural exchange. Qualified scenicspot introductions can not only convey the key information but also fascinate potentialvisitors. With the sixty scenic spot introductions (thirty in Chinese and thirty inEnglish) from tourism websites as the object of study, this thesis focuses onretextualizing scenic spots at the macro and the micro level. Based on Reiss’s texttypology, retextualizing scenic spots at the macro level takes place in terms of texttype, writing style and information structure, while retextualizing scenic spots at themicro level covers graphological, lexical, syntactical, tense and rhetorical features.This thesis places emphasis on retextualizing scenic spots at the macro level bycontrasting and analyzing parallel texts with the aid of case studies. In order to fulfillthe purpose of scenic spot introductions, three applicable translation principles, i.e. theinformativity principle, the coherence principle and the evocation principle, aresuggested. The thesis aims to inspire future C-E translation of scenic spot texts, andlend support to translation teaching and self-directed practice.
