Study On The Application Of Xuzhou Paper-cut In City Gifts Design

Chinese regional folk cultures are drawing increasing attention along with theoriental giant’s arising in economy and culture. It is not uncommon to see the naturalfolk arts are incorporated into multiple design fields. In particular, the design of citygifts symbolizing the regional culture is taking in numerous folk customs. Xuzhoupaper-cut, originating domestically, is a representative of the most remarkable folkworks. Although the local culture and customs are embedded in this cutting, it isamazingly regretful to notice that rarely has it been applied into the city souvenirs.From this point, we also can see that the appliance of folk arts is far from fullydeveloped in the design of city gifts in Xuzhou.This work, on the foundation of city gifts in Xuzhou, starting from thepaper-cut and its appliance, discussed the developing and designing of Xuzhoufolkway city gifts. Initially, plenty Insitu field investigation and literature reviewenables the collection of information on paper-cut. Historically and culturally, theoriginality, current state and art features of the paper-cut were discussed. Then, marketresearch and online survey provides sufficient awareness on the concept, sort andfeatures of the city gifts. Meantime, the relationship between city gift and paper-cutbecomes clear. Finally, that how to apply paper-cut into city gift was proposed withfeasible principles and methods, based on which the real designed examples validatedthe feasibility of author’s idea. The way combining the paper-cut symbol with citygifts were suggested with confidence.
