A Practical Report On Localization Translation Of IMS Mdriveplus Project

Under the background of globalization, the development of transnationalenterprises has promoted the rise and advancement of localization industry.Translators working on localization translation, which is an important part oflocalization, are required to be not only equipped with professional knowledge, butalso able to work with translation tools and translate with teamwork according tostandard translating process. IMS MDrivePlus translation project, which was finishedby the author during his internship in EC Innovations (Shenyang), was of this kind.The report is written based on the translation of this project which is the productintroduction to a kind of step motor with various versions and is with the generalfeatures of technology text.Firstly, when reporting the translation process, the author describes thepreparation before translation in the first part, in which the preparation for thecontent and related knowledge of the project and the preparation for translation toolsare shown. How the original text is translated is shown in the second part, which isfollowed by the communication part. Secondly, case study in the report is to showhow four typical problems are solved with appropriated translation skill and strategy.The problems include the translation of preposition with, the handling of thestructure of one verb with several objects, the realization of consistency and thetranslation of text in graphs. Thirdly, the defects and deficiencies during the projecttranslation are shown with respective advices and solution.Based on the description of the translation process, the analysis of case studyand the summary of defects and deficiencies in the project translation, the followingconclusion can be made:1. Preparation before translation is of great importance tothe translation work;2. Original text should be fully used as reference.3. Various oftranslation skill should be applied to realize a better translation.4. An excellenttranslator should be professionally qualified. The practical report on the translation of IMS MDrivePlus project is of benefitto those who want to work on localization translation project with standard workflow,and the summarized problems and respective solutions in it can also be a reference toother translators.
