With the development of information technology, all nations begin to exchangewith each other both in economy and culture frequently. In this global context, origineditions of all kinds including literatures of popular science, are brought into China.Translation, in this course, plays a role of an indispensable media in communicationbetween different languages.Popular science is an important translation phenomenon which functions as amedia to disseminate culture and knowledge in China’s fourth translation waves(dominated by foreign languages into Chinese). Therefore how to translate literaturesof popular science with accuracy and offer domestic readers related knowledgeproperly is a serious issue for translators to resolve.The sci-tech Japanese translational corpus project is a sub-project of China’sProject863, in which the author is responsible for the original text input andtranslation of the Eyes of Scientists. This report summarizes the pre-translationanalysis and translation skills applied in a finished translation project through casestudy, especially the translation of highlights and difficult contents. The author looksinto plenty of materials on the background of the translation project to be studied inorder to ensure the accuracy of jargons. Also long and difficult sentences areanalyzed to meet the standard of popular science. In addition to lexical, syntacticaland textural analysis, the author also concludes problems meet in the translationprocess. In a whole, through the translation and successive analysis, the author hopesto facilitate C-J translation of this genre.
