Chinese Language Cram Schools (CLCSs) in Indonesia became the backbone of theChinese Language Education (CLE) after the repeal of the ban, and it is still the most influentialand representative Chinese language education form today. CLCSs play an important role in thediversifying Chinese language education field and Contribute significantly to popularizing theChinese language, thus makes it irreplaceable and indispensable for a long time to come.Based on the case study method, the present paper gives a comprehensive insight into theXinzhong alumni-funded CLCS in Surabaya Indonesia, such as administration, coursemanagement, teaching material management, teachers, students and classroom teaching, etc.Meanwhile, running experiences and dilemmas of the school is also reported. To fulfill such anobjective, some approaches, e.g. survey, interview and classroom observation, are employed. It isagreed that there remain several questions to be solved, such as unprofessional management, insufficient fund, unreasonable curriculum system, elusive localization of the teaching materials, low level of teachers’ professionalization, the high churn rate of students, etc. Accordingly, tosolve these problems, some efforts should be made in the following two aspects:1) seeking forexternal assistance actively;2) improving their own condition. These can be detailed as follows:1) improve the management;2) seek for more financial help;3) offer the teachers with careertraining;4) carry out periodical investigation on the demand of student and the market tooptimize the curriculum system. We hope this study will enhance the understanding of thecurrent situation of CLE in Indonesia for those engaged in CLE, and we also hope this will makesome contribution to the Chinese international education and promotion.
