Teaching Foreigners Chinese characters is one of the most important parts of teaching Chinese as second language and also one of the most difficult parts. This paper summarizes current situation of teaching foreigners Chinese characters. And it studies the more popular comprehensive Chinese textbook which called Boya Chinese (Elementary I). This paper uses analyzing statistical method, contrast method and questionnaire survey method. Firstly, it analyzes the rationality of the selected Chinese characters from the respective of the quantity. Secondly, it classifies and analyzes the characteristics of the components. Thirdly, it classifies and gets statistics of the Chinese characters according to both traditional "Six Categories" and Su Peicheng’s Modern "Six Categories" theory.And it explores the relationship between the traditional structure and the modern structure of the Chinese characters. Lastly this paper tries to provide more scientific and effective method and suggestions for teaching Chinese characters according to the research and the survey in practical teaching.
