Chinese characters teaching is one of the difficulties in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages, whose learning effect makes a great difference to the overall Chinese study afterwards. Lacking guidance of the scientific and systematic teaching methods, the teaching and learning of Chinese characters are in the exploratory stage, and the effect of teaching Chinese to foreigners is generally not high. As the relying on teaching, the arrangement of Chinese characters in the textbook largely determines the effectiveness of Chinese characters teaching. Aiming at the primary status of the Chinese characters teaching in the primary stage, the essay selects characters from the currently popular New Practical Text Book (the First Volume) as the study object. Firstly, the paper detailedly analyzes the selection of Chinese characters and the related knowledge from the textbook; then, focusing on the components and structure of those characters, uses statistical and inductive method to analyze them and summarize their characteristics; Finally, according to the characteristics of Chinese character components, and the correspondences between traditional construct and modern construct, as well as the practical teaching experience, this paper elaborates the teaching methods of different kinds of Chinese characters. Hope it will give some effective methods and teaching suggestions for Chinese characters teaching to foreigners in primary stage.
