The teaching materials produce a bridge bond effect in the teaching Chinese asforeign language. Although being of large quantity, their quality diverses; however, thequality of teaching materials determine greatly the quality of teaching effects. Therefore, toimprove the teaching Chinese as foreign language and its teaching materials, the researchof teaching materials, as well as the summary of success and failure of compiling are ofvital importance. Among the teaching materials, the primary textbooks are used morewidely and compiled with more difficulties, which is more meaningful for researching. This article concentrates on the comparison and contrast between the Great Wall Chineseand the first two volumes of the New Practical Chinese Textbook, of which the former oneis of new type based on the network multimedia technology, while the latter one is atypical integrated Chinese textbook used in traditional classrooms. As both of them are themajor textbooks of the Confucius Institute abroad, we cannot help thinking about theirdifferences of contents; however, so far the research of the Great Wall Chinese mainlyplaces particular emphasis on the teaching mode that we have not found any academicarticle to compare it with other teaching materials. Applicating the induction of literatureand induction of comparison and contrast, both of them are selected and compared in termsof theory, word, grammar, Chinese character, text, exercise, culture, etc. It summarizestheir differences as well as their demerits, indicating that they learn from each other, yetboth of them needs improvement.
