This thesis is a report on the translation task of Teaching and Learning in theLanguage Classroom which is written by Tricia Hedge and published by ShanghaiForeign Language Education Press. Teaching and Learning in the Language Classroom,aimS at enhancing teacher’s teaching proficiency, encourages teachers to advance thecurrent methods of teaching writing, takes use of the quintessence of relevant teachingtheories and principles, and combines them with one’s own practical conditions.This thesis points out that translators should, first of all, understand the purposeand the main ideas of the original work, and be correct in assuming target readers’cognitive setting to offer readers a translation work with the least processing effortwhile providing a good and optimal relevance with the origin work. On the basis of therelevance theory, this thesis also explores the uses of the translation techniques ofconversion, addition, omission and how to tackle with the key problems in thetranslation process.
