This thesis is a translation project report. The original text is from the entireChapter Four and most of Chapter Five of Issues and Options in Language Teachingpublished in1999by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. This book, edited byPatrick Allen and Birgit Harley on the basis of the posthumous manuscript of DoctorHH Stern, a famous Canadian language teaching expert, aims to assist languageteaching staff and institution in making effective plans for instruction and help learnersacquire the language better. Eco-translatology proposed in2006by Professor HuGengshen from Tsinghua University is used as instruction for this translation project.Based on the approach to translation as adaptation and selection also proposed byProfessor Hu, this theory is guided with Darwin’s “Adaptation/selection”. It makes newexplanation about translation from “adaptive” and “selective” perspective and holds thattranslation is the result of multi-dimensional adaptation and adaptive selection and agood translation can be attained through appropriate linguistic, cultural andcommunicative transformation. This report deals with long sentence translation onlanguage teaching works by means of three-dimensional transformation. And this reportincludes four parts: the first two parts are mainly about the description of the translationproject, the author and text analysis; Part Three introduces eco-translatology, andthree-dimensional transformation is in particular presented, and an analysis of longsentence translations for the original text from the perspective of three-dimensionaltransformation is highlighted and the last part is a conclusion about the translation andthe problems remaining unsolved.
