Th"ere are a group of X "shuo in modern Chinese which havetwo different ways to be used.An "X ""shuo can be used as a "word anda "ph"rase,and may have already finished the process or may be inthe process of lexicalization.In response to this linguistic phenomenon,the main contents of this paper is to determine h"ny X sh"ow mauomay be used both "as a "wordand "a "phrasein modern Chinese,andthen to investigate and examine each of them in detail,to research the Idegree of their synchronic lexicalization, to oropose some appropriate“""rules to judge if it i"s a word or a phrase’and to explain the""reason why it is a wordin some situations and why it is a ""phraseinother ch.This paper describes thearacteristics and laws this group ofthis linguistic phenomenon through careful analysis of each of them.This paper has two different categoriesesearch,one including the r """of bie shuo ting shuo "and "z"ai shuo which have already beenincluded in the dictionary.another including the research of "yaoshuo ""sh"ao shuo which have not been in the dictionary.Both of theirsemantic, syntactic and pragmatic features are discussed,and the rules"“which can be used to judge the same X shuo if it i"s a word” or a""phrase.The first chapter of this paper introduces background research,andthe motivation for the investigation.It includes previous research on thistopic and presents examples of this topic.Chapter2is the basic part of the paper.This chapter presents thescope of paper and the parameters that define the scope.Chapter3,4,5"present research on ting sh“uo "",bie shuo and"zai shuo “respectively. Firstly’to propose some specific rules’thesespecific rules are proposed to define and categories the usage of eachword,their syntactic features,semantic features and pragmatic functionsare also discussed.Chapter6and chapter7present research on "yao shuo "and "shaoshuo “respectively.
