A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of The "News Overseas" Of Website Of Ministry Of Foreign Affairs

The conventional notion of diplomacy can be defined as the activities concerning foreign affairs, with which the state government charges. But since the beginning of the20th century, an increasing number of non-state actors have got involved in diplomatic activities. As an executive agency responsible for foreign relations between China and other countries and international organizations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) attaches great importance to the Internet, which could be regarded as a platform to advocate China’s foreign policies. The MFA decides to cooperate with domestic universities to launch the translation projects of the website of the MFA.This report is based on the author’s internship experience on the project team of website of the MFA since September2013. This project is entrusted by the MFA and organized by Xi’an International Studies Universities (XISU). At first, the author introduces the preparation for daily work of the project team in detail, thus providing a solution to one of the three major difficulties of the project: how to ensure the progress of translation project through pre-task work, the formulation of translation plan and the arrangement of post-task work. In the following chapters, the author provides solutions to the second and third major difficulties of the project: how to ensure the accuracy and fluency of translation with certain translation skills (in terms of wording cautiously and making sentences logically) and the assistance of translation tools. In the final chapter, the author summarizes the report and introduces professional qualities for foreign affairs translators, such as high political quality, a good command of source language and target language, a wide range of general knowledge, etc.This report aims to provide reference to the translators and project managers who would like to join the project team of translation for foreign affairs in terms of project management and quality control of target texts.
