The twentieth century witnessed the development of netization and informationization of Chinese foreign affairs. In the past few years, Chinese government has constructed several local websites which are playing increasingly important roles in building the governments’images and offering online services. However, the quality of the translation of the foreign affairs office (FAO) websites is not satisfactory on the whole.The diction and the arrangement of the sentences on FAO websites with the purpose of publicizing Chinese government’s policy and attitudes toward foreign affairs have their special characters. In this thesis, the features of foreign affairs English will be discussed. And common problems with English language on the websites will also be dealt with.This thesis studies FAO websites from a new perspective:the functionalist approach with a view to improve the translation quality of the websites and to provide better service to those foreign readers. |
