The Problems In The English Annotation Of Vocabulary In The Elementary Chinese For Everyone

English annotation is one of the important parts of TCSL(Teaching Chinese as aSecond Language) textbooks. It is better for learners to understand and utilize newwords with the accuracy of words annotation. This paper analyses the Englishannotation of the vocabulary in The Elementary Chinese for Everyone, which ispublished by Wuhan University Press, and summarizes the problems existing in it. Itconcludes six sides: the English annotation is explained the discrepancies with the truemeaning of the word; the meaning of English annotation is more than the meaning ofthe Chinese word; the meaning of English annotation is less than the meaning of theChinese word; Parts of Speech of the English annotation is different from the Chinesewords; the English annotation can’t express the emotion of the Chinese new words; theEnglish annotation translates the literal meaning of Chinese. Through analyzes the newwords’ annotation one by one, some advices will be put forward for the form andcontent of the English annotation. At the same time, according to the annotationproblem of the material, three reasons will be given. Like the difference of thinking; thedifference of thinking habits; the difference of Chinese and Western culture.At last, this is one of teaching skills in using students’ mother tongue to annotationin teaching new words. It is useful to improve the efficiency in teaching. This papergives some advices about the English annotation in the teaching; including the Englishannotation must be loyalty to the text; ensuring the accuracy of the English meaning;combination literal translation and free translation etc.
