Project Report On The Consecutive Interpreting For The Malaysian Procurement Of GTEN In The10^thChina-ASEAN Expo

As a newly emerging economic form, convention and exhibition economy has developed into a new branch of economy and acted positively for the promotion of Chinese market economy. In this grand context, as the number of international conferences rises, the need for talents in conference interpreting grows increasingly larger and conference interpretation emerges as a part composed in interpreting study. This trend emphasizes the significance of study on conference interpreting.This conference consecutive interpreting task for the Malaysian procurement of GTEN was one of the conferences held during the10th China-ASEAN Expo. Being the conference consecutive interpreter, deep impressions had been left on my mind. The themes and topics of GTEN conference interpreting had a wide range on Malaysian featured agricultural foodstuff, logics, market channels and import&export inspection and quarantine. Therefore, it increases the difficulty of GTEN conference interpreting for interpreters.Applying the translation and interpretation theories into interpreting practices, this report will discuss how to make a sufficient preparation for conference interpreting and the coping tactics for conference interpreting. The report is composed of the following parts:task preparation, strategies on redundancies based on the Interpretive Theory, coping tactics on the influence of accents based on Gile’s Efforts Model, the application in conference interpreting on the Cooperative Theory and the summarization. Detailed analysis will be presented on the problems that happened in the conference interpreting. Judging from the current interpreting research situation, the research of conference interpreting based on interpreting and cross-cultural communication theories is not sufficient enough. Thereby this report is a tentative study in this field. Although there is still room to improve, it is hoped that this report may provide some references to interpreting teaching and learning as well as training talents in professional interpretation.
