Practice Report Of Chinese-english Consecutive Interpreting Of Football

This thesis simulates consecutive interpreting from Chinese to English. Theoriginal manuscript of this thesis is the content from special biography David Beckham:the Only One of the program Total Football from CCTV5. In this thesis, on one hand,I try to figure out the elements that impact the output of consecutive interpreting fromChinese to English and on the other hand, find out the useful skills and methods inconsecutive interpreting and their impact to the accuracy of consecutive interpreting.There are two main reasons that I choose this manuscript. I list them as follows.First, simulating consecutive interpreting from Chinese to English is a field ofspecialization. I feel that the more we are familiar with the subject, the better thequality of consecutive interpreting. Therefore, I choose the football manuscript whichI’m interested and familiar with, we can simulate consecutive interpreting with skills.Second, Football is one of the specialized fields and in the process of consecutiveinterpreting; we’ll get familiar with specialized terms and jargon, but also have newknowledge about relevant skills and methods. David Beckham: the Only One is abiographic TV program describes the professional football career of David when heannounced his retirement. There is no need that we talk too much about the influenceof David. These are the reasons why we choose this program. Because of the economicglobalization, scholars pay more and more attention to practice research of consecutiveinterpreting and simultaneous interpreting. But still, as a specialized field as football,some scholars still pay less attention to it. According to the familiarity to football andtheoretical knowledge I’ve learned about interpreting, with the skills and theories ofinterpreting, I’ll try to make practice research and find relevant theory which canimprove the accuracy of interpreting. With a purpose to help more and more amateurinterpreters improve their skills.In the process of consecutive interpreting, we have to consider the features of football and characteristics of consecutive interpreting. Total Football as a footballprogram, we have to consider not only its professional character but also its recreationfor the public. Therefore, the consecutive interpreting must be professional andrecreational.The highlight of this thesis is the innovation of note-taking of football jargons. Asthe professionalism of football, we can prepare the jargons in advance and theinnovation of note-taking to save time. Because of the differences of English andChinese, we have to make adjustment of Chinese and English. When we interpret fromChinese into English, it’s difficult to make adjustment in a short time. We have toaccumulate theories and methods of interpreting in advance. We use recessive cohesionmechanism and domesticating method for this simulating consecutive interpreting. Weuse theory to guide the practice to make it more convenient.In the end of the simulating consecutive interpreting, we find out the problems wemeet and the solutions for them.In the process of consecutive interpreting, recessive cohesion mechanism teachesus not to focus on the form of sentences, but the meaning and content. We should payattention to the interpreting of exact meaning and cohesion of sentences. Under theconduction of domesticating method, we should consider comprehension andreadability of target language readers.
