In teaching Chinese as a foreign language, culture teaching and language teaching are two importantaspects. However, in actual teaching, culture teaching has not received enough attention. In Chinese longhistory and rich culture, folk tales as an important part handed down from one generation to another with itsclose to the people and its’ beautiful and simple language. In the cross-cultural teaching, making full use ofthe language and cultural characteristics of the classical poetry is very meaningful to strengthen thestudents in learning the Chinese language and culture.This paper defines the meaning, features, classifies and culture connotation of folk tales, and analyzesthe current situation of the folk tales using in the TCFL. In the aspect of textbook, I surveyed the presenttextbooks used in the Henan University international college for Chinese language and culture, found thatthere are few texts and practices related to the folk tales. Besides, a survey was designed to the foreignstudents, from the survey found that the foreign students are very interested in the folk tales, however, it’svery hard for them to learn these in their daily study.About the above problems, we suggest that the quantity of folk tales texts should be added. Based onthe understanding degree and interest degree to the folk tales of the foreign students, we summarized thefollowing teaching strategies: method of lecture, discussion method, Intuitive demonstration method,method of dramatic expression. In the selection of folk tales textbooks in TCFL, we summarized thefollowing selection principles: targeted principles, applicable principles, moderately difficult principles.This paper aims to research how to use folk tales appropriately to improve the teaching effect in theTCFL. The author hopes that this paper could make a contribution to folk tales teaching in TCFL.
