A Report On E-C Translation Of Tourism Website

With the increasing information exchange between countries around the world,tourism translation has got rapid growth, and the research on tourism websitetranslation attracts more and more attention from academic circles.In October2012, the author got involved in the project of www.hotels.cn websitetranslating in Changsha Hongwen Translation Company, which had a relativelyconsiderable scale (200,000English words) and very limited time period (two months),and was to be accomplished by a small team. By analyzing project process andtranslation cases, the author summarized five translation methods after theachievement of this project. This report is based on the author‘s experience in thepre-translation preparation, translation and modification after the project.In this practice report, the author first introduces the project background andclient‘s requirements, and the reasonable arrangements of personnel and advancingprocess according to the project scale and difficulty. In order to achieve fluency,authenticity and idiomaticity of target language, the author pays gr eat attention to theeffect of tourism style, and adopts methods like four-character structure transformation,annotation of proper nouns, extension of meaning and localization in the translatingprocess. In addition, the team members keep close contact, provide samples to theclient timely, and obtain feedback information to guarantee the integrity andconsistency of the whole project.Also, the author believes that the translation of tourism website should bereader-oriented and factors like client‘s requirements and interests, translationpurposes and functions, the representation of the original and inter-culturalcommunication should be all comprehensively considered, so as to reach a moreperfect version. At the end, the author lists the major findings and limitations in thetranslating of www.hotels.cn project as well as further suggestions from the authorherself, hoping to arouse attentions of these inadequacies and to offer referentialvalues to tourism website translation.
