The report is about the practice of translation for the first to the third chapter of the American modern love story Lily. The author makes a comprehensive review and integrated discussion of the main feature on literary texts, translation strategies and translation skills as well as some case analyses on the basis of the translation practice. Above of all these, the author also raises up a number of personal opinions. Learning lessons by the revision and the scrutiny of the translation, the author shares the translation strategies and translation skills with a better understanding of them and with an aim to improve translation learners’ability.Literary translation is the most difficult of all kinds of texts’translation, which involves cultural differences and language differences in many factors. And there is no fixed pattern to follow. So the translator must not only possess the necessary professional skills, but also have a certain literary quality and Chinese literacy. On the basis of "Resemblance in form" and "Resemblance in spirit", the translator should give full play to creativity and make use of translation skills and strategies flexibly so as to further improve the quality of translation. Through the practice of translation, the translator has a better command of a certain amount of translation rules and translation methods, and is more aware of own deficiencies, which will motivate the improvement of the individual’s translation ability. In this paper, the author analyzes Chinese translation of Lily. After determining the stylistic features and the type of the source text, the author applies specific translation techniques, such as voice and emotion, repetition, addition, omissions, and etc. under the guidance of translation standards and strategies. The paper falls into six parts:the first part provides a brief introduction to the whole project; the second describes author’s preparation for the translation of Lily; in the third part, the author focuses on the analysis of the stylistic characteristics of source text; after that, the fourth part determines the translation criteria and strategies; the fifth details the frequently-used translation skills in the project, and discusses in details with representative examples; the last part makes a conclusion of the whole paper.
