The Love Story between Chaopangqian and Kopash is the most outstanding work of the oral literature of the Miao.It is,in fact, reckoned in the research circle of the Miao culture as an encyclopedia that records the production mode and life style of the Miao people and as an indispensable classic work for the research of the Miao culture in today's Southwest China. Its great popularity, however, seems limited to the research circle only and very few among the Miao youth have read or even heard of this story. At a time when the country is determined to open itself still wider to the rest of the world in an all-round way, however,it is increasingly important for us to translate and introduce excellent literary classics of the ethnic groups to other countries. It also meets the requirements of intercultural exchanges in accordance with the wished enhancement of the China's “soft power” across the world. As the most outstanding work of oral literature of the Miao ethnic group, the language of the source text shows such features as creativity, connotation, symbolism and aesthetic. The difficulties and problems the translator confronted in the course of translating, therefore, mainly focus on the translation of proper nouns, polysemous and synonymous words,four-character structures, idioms and slangs, and long and complex sentences, especially the ones closely related to the Miao culture. In order to solve these problems, the translator chose Ecological Translation as her theoretical guidance and managed to keep a balance of the translation eco-environment between the source text and the target text in the aspects of lexicon, syntax, and culture. The process of the whole translation followed the principle of adaption and selection in Ecological Translation by adopting strategies like domestication and foreignization. The translation project was finally completed through the translator's revision for several times and has reached the goals set in advance. The process of the whole translation project is the process of the translator's selection of theoretical guidance, strategies, techniques, and solutions to make the translation adapt to the specific translation eco-environment.Through the completion of this translation project, the translator has learned that the best way of translating ethnic literatures is to arrive at an ecological balance between the source text and target text through adaption and selection on the basis of the Ecological Translation.
