The TV series is an art form of image and sound, which makes it very important inintercultural communication. Meanwhile TV series reflect the values, aesthetical standardsand public behaviors of a country or a nation, so the intercultural communication of TV seriesis actually a process of conflict and integration between different cultures and theintercultural communication of TV series is actually a cultural phenomenon based ontelevision media. The world today is characterized by the information globalization andcultural diversification, more and more foreign TV series are introduced to China via internet.Among them American TV series are the most typical. As an important carrier of Americancultures, American TV series are becoming more and more popular and influential in China.Therefore, the American TV series’ intercultural communication is a phenomenon worthstudying.There are three features in the American TV series’ communication in China, the first isthe alternative communication channel, the communication of American TV series in Chinamainly depends on the internet instead of traditional TV channels; the second is that thefansub groups are the biggest drivers behind American TV series’ communication in China;the third is minority and elitism of the audiences, the American TV series’ audiences in Chinaare mostly young highly-educated people who are college students and white collar workers.Due to the huge differences between Chinese cultures and American cultures, the American TV series’ communication in China is inevitably influenced by cultural conflicts, while thereare still more and more Chinese people start to accept and approve American TV series. Thisthesis aims to analyze the features of American TV series’ communication in China and theChinese audiences’ intercultural reception of American TV series with the theories ofpsychology and intercultural communication in order to find out the reasons behind thesuccess of American TV series’ communication in China.In the era of information globalization, the communication among different countries isoverwhelming. The TV series which is an important cultural soft power comes with the signof cultural penetration. While we are vigilant we need to face the challenges rationally.Through the study on the intercultural communication of American TV series, we canunderstand the psychology of the audiences and figure out the internal and external factors ofAmerican serials’ popularity in China so that we can know how to push the Chinese TV seriesto a better level and to enhance the cultural soft power of our own.
