Report On Documentary Subtitle Translation Of Record Of Shenzhou Spaceship Programme From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the improvement of China’s cultural soft power, there are more and more outstandingdocumentaries. In order to enable more foreigners to know more about China through thedocumentaries, documentary subtitle translation plays an important role. Furthermore, asShenzhou X was launched to the space, the development of Chinese space engineering hasattracted people all over the world. Based on the subtitle translation of the documentary Recordof Shenzhou Spaceship Programme made by CCTV7, this report tries to apply the functionalequivalence theory to the documentary subtitle translation.On the basis of the writer’s practice on documentary subtitle translation, this reportintroduces the features of the documentary subtitle, the background and the significance of thereport, task process and the case analysis from the perspectives of functional equivalence indetails. In the part of case analysis, the writer considers that the functional equivalence betweenthe source text and the target text should be fully considered in the process of documentarysubtitle translation so as to choose the appropriate and exact translation strategies applied in thedocumentary subtitle translation. This report analyzes the subtitle translation of Record ofShenzhou Spaceship Programme from the lexical level, the syntactical level and the textual levelin accordance with the functional equivalence theory so as to provide some references to thestudy of documentary subtitle translation, and, at the same time, enable people who speak thetarget language to learn more about the development of Chinese space engineering and to see thecontinuous efforts that China’s scientific and technical workers in space engineering have made.
