With China’s increasing overall strength and international influence, the country’s top-level decision making and domestic and foreign policies have drawn greater attention from the world. On such an occasion, interpreting plays an important role. During C-E interpreting, many difficulties are caused by the large differences between English and Chinese languages. What strategies the interpreters should use to solve the problems is of great importance. This report, based on the Interpretive Theory of the Paris School, taking Hu Jintao’s Speech at18th Party Congress in2012as the case of study, describes the differences between English and Chinese in wording and phrasing, thinking patterns, way of expressing, using of rhetoric and writing habits, analyses the necessity to achieve deverbalization and presents strategies interpreters can use such as amplification, logicalization, omission, extraction, generalization and replacement. It is hoped that these strategies can provide valuable reference for learners of conference interpretation.
