Interpreters are interfered by the structure and form of source language despite the fact they are interpreting into their mother tongue. The interpretive theory of translation requires that translators shouldn't translate at the word level, but deverbalize to convey what speakers mean.Based on the interpretive theory of translation, the author defined and classified deverbalization.By looking into the mock conference of Oxford Union with Joseph Nye,the author's success and insufficiency in deverbalization were listed. After checking the transcribed text of the source and target language,as well as comparing notes with it,the author found that he had successfully deverbalized by using strategies such as interpretation of terminologies and reasonable omissions;but the author still had certain insufficient deverbalization: in the process of listening and comprehending, the author didn't understand the meaning of speaker due to lacking in background knowledge, and didn't catch the logical connectives because of being overloaded with too much information, hence not in line with the logic of speaker;in the process of converting syntactic structure, because the author wasn't familiar with the differences between Chinese and English syntactic structure, the converted output didn't match the standard of the target language;in the process of expressing, the meaning of the speaker can't be one hundred percent conveyed,in that the references of pronouns weren't pointed out and only the surface of meaning was translated. After consulting relevant literature, the author found that, the coping strategies in the process of listening and comprehending include preparation before translation and visualization of information;the coping strategies in the process of converting syntactic structure include reordering and creative expression;the coping strategies in the process of expressing include pointing out the references of pronouns and manifesting the deeper meaning. This paper aims to provide help for the interpreters who encounter the same situation, helping them more effectively convey the meaning of speaker in the future.
