There are three parts in the Theory of Sense: the effort models of interpreting, deverbalization and conference interpretation training.Among the three parts, deverbalization plays a key role.Only by deverbalization can an interpreter get the meaning across. In this thesis, the author did a comprehensive case study of English-to-Chinese interpretation at a mock conference and found that when the author deverbalized, either by adding additional explanatory information or by visualizing the source language, she could successfully convey the meaning of the speaker. But when the author paid too much attention to the form of the source language, she failed to understand the speaker or get the message across. In this paper, the author proposes several specific and general strategies for interpreters to do a better job of deverbalization in the process of interpreting. |
