The Project Report On The Translation Of Charlotte’s Web

Children’s literature plays an important role in children’s literary development. It is regarded as spiritual food for children, influencing their mental growth and development of values. With increased communication between cultures, many excellent literary works have been introduced to China from Western countries. Children’s literature translation received lots of attention. This report, based on the translation of Charlotte’s Web, aims to make a tentative research on the difficulties in the translation practice, and sum up the methods to solve the problems.As a branch of literature, children’s literature not only has the common characteristics of literature, but also has its own distinctive features. During the process of translating Charlotte’s Web, the author is mainly troubled in two fields:one is the choice of language and style; the other one is the translation of culture and rhetoric. From the perspective of creative treason, this report makes a comparative study of three Chinese versions of Charlotte’s Web, that is, Kang Xin’s version (1979), Renrongrong’s version (2007) and Chen Qingyu’s version (1983). The study explores how the creative treason influences children’s literature translation from four creative forms:amplification, domestication, individualized translation and rhetoric devices, and summaries strategies, such as:domestication maintaining features of original culture, individualized translation with reduplicated words and onomatopoeia, to solve the major issues and difficulties in the translation practice. Through the elaboration, the author personally holds the view that creative treason might be an essential choice in children’s literature translation.
