| With the frequent communication between China and other countries and therapid development of science and technology, English for Science and Technology,an important tool to promote the exchange between countries, has attracted people’sattention in terms of the great need of its translation. EST has its own characteristicsin both lexical and syntactic structures, which requires translators to know thecharacteristics of EST, to understand the subject matter it addresses and to grasp thetranslation principles and techniques which should be flexibly applied to translationpractice.This thesis elaborates the characteristics of English for Science and Technology(EST), based on the analysis and summary of my translation practice, namely,Introduction and Chapter1from the book—The New Digital Age: Reshaping theFuture of People, Nations and Business.This report mainly consists of three parts:Part one is introduction which describes the background and significance of thestudy of EST translation, and it also introduces the study approaches and procedures.Part two is the main body of the report, divided into three chapters:Chapter One firstly describes the background information of the translation taskto better understand its authors and contents; and then introduces the characteristicsof EST, mainly from vocabulary and sentence structure, in order to lay a foundationfor further study of EST in the following parts.Chapter Two introduces the whole process of translation, including preparation,translation process and post translation.Chapter Three provides some commonly-used translation techniquessummarized from practices, including literal translation and free translation,repetition and conversion, hoping this summary can provide some help to improvethe quality of EST translation.Part three reaches a conclusion on the translation, giving a summary of thewhole paper and hoping that there will be a brighter future for EST translation. |
