Considering there are not many opportunities for doing a real consecutive interpreting(CI),simulated CI serves as a good approach for interpreting learners to develop interpreting skills and accumulate interpreting experiences. In this thesis, the author has chosen Jack Ma's Speech When the East Meets the West on 2nd December,2016 in the South China Morning Post China Conference to do the simulated CI.The speech focuses on the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)and the cultural differences between the East and the West. With the help from professors, teachers and peer students, the author finished the simulated consecutive interpreting. After that, feedback from the students and teachers were collected for reflection and summary. The author hopes that the interpretation of this speech can help the international audiences have a clearer picture of China's BRI,the cultural differences between the East and the West,China's economic development and the contribution China has been making to the world. This report is composed of five parts.Part One serves as a brief introduction of this report. The second part introduces the background of the interpreting task and the requirements that the interpreter has to meet.In Part Three, the author describes the preparation of the simulated CI and the conducting process. The difficulties occurring in the interpreting process and the corresponding solutions are listed in Part Four. And the last part is the conclusion,a summary of the whole report including how the simulated CI progressed and how the author analyzed her interpreting based on certain theories as well as the weaknesses of the conducted CI task.Hopefully, this report can help interpreting learners' study and practice by sharing the note-taking techniques and interpreting skills applied in this simulated CI.The author has learned a lot form this simulated CI.Firstly, the author has a deeper understanding of the qualities that an interpreter should have and the process of the CI.Secondly, the author has encountered many difficulties during the process of this simulated CI,and when she tries to analyze and solve these difficulties, she applies the knowledge and interpreting skills learned before and developed some other new problem-solving skills.Lastly, the author has learned some differences between eastern and western culture and the essence of the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI).
