The source text is from the third chapter “globalization and news: the role of the news agencies inhistorical perspective” in Translation In Global News. The text reviews the course of the development ofthe important news agencies, such as AFP, Reuters, AP, etc. and analyzes the relationship betweenglobalization and media. In the past150years, the technologies of telegraph, fiber optic cable, satellitetransmitting, and internet have been updating, which contribute to the development of the news agenciesand the transformation of news transmission mode. As a result, the world connects as a whole. The authoralso introduces the challenges the news agencies face and the recent trends in the field of global news.The source text includes about11000words. Based on the Skopos Theory, the writer analyzes theEnglish text and translates it into Chinese with translation methods. At the same time, the writer tries hisbest to make the translation easy to be understood for the readers. The report mainly consists of three parts:Part One is the translation project description, including the source context description, the significance ofthe study, the structure of the thesis and brief introduction to Skopos Theory. Part two is about translationdifficulties and methods in the translation. The author discusses the methods used in this translationprogram with specific examples. Part three makes a conclusion about this translation program, includingthe experience, lessons and the unsolved problems.From this translation practice, the author learns that excellent Chinese and English capability lay thefoundation for the good translation. More practice and continuous learning makes a qualified translator.
