| As people’s material life has been greatly improved,people’s life pressure is also increasing,thus the books for improving happiness in life and pursuing a rich spiritual life have been published substantially in recent years.It has put forward higher requirements for improving the translation quality of humanities and social science books.Such books can not only introduce advanced foreign ideas into China and broaden the horizons of domestic readers,but also provide us with some guiding advice on life,work and interpersonal relationships.This translation practice report is an excerpt from "The Great Gide" written by Julian Baggini,a famous contemporary British philosopher.This book is a humanities and social science text,and there are a large number of long and complex sentences in the book,which need to be carefully analyzed and understood.Due to the cultural differences between English and Chinese,the main point for the translator is how to accurately and authentically translate the English original text into a target language that is better understood by Chinese readers.The translator mainly selects the three principles of skopos theory as the theoretical basis and analyzes the long and difficult sentences in the text from the perspectives of lexical and syntactic aspects,adopting linear translation,reversing translation,division and comprehensive strategies.This translation practice report,under the translation methods and case analysis,helps readers understand the cultural connotation of Chinese and English,accurately conveys the message of the original text,provides people with guidelines for life and thinking guides,and arouses people’s concern and reflection on themselves and society,which has profound practical significance.It is hoped that this translation practice report can provide some reference and help for the translation work of life philosophy. |
