This practice report is based on the translation work of the first two chapters of The Dream Cafe, collaborated by Duncan D. Bruce and Dr Geoff Crook. This book mainly talks about the lessons in the art of radical innovation and the insight into the contemporary business development. The analysis and demonstration in the whole translation process are the main body of this report with special emphasis on the challenges of this translation practice, respective solutions and translating strategies. Under the general guidance of skopos theory, the translator utilizes skopos rule, coherence rule and loyalty rule in several case studies to illustrate how to translate it precisely and appropriately.There are four parts in this report.The first part introduces the background and features of the translation task.The second part presents the whole translation process including pre-translation preparation, translation section and proofreading section. In order to translate accurately, the translator also consults much related materials including the history background of French art revolution, the rise of cafes and relevant knowledge on marketing and sales in this phase. In translation phase, an incremental approach is introduced to improve the translation efficiency. Finally, the draft is reviewed and updated if needed in the proofreading phase to make target text more precise and fluent.The third part is the main body of this translation report including the analysis of detailed case studies about difficulties and solutions and the theory utilized in this translation practice. Combined with other translation techniques, the application of skopos theory is demonstrated by several detailed case studied at words level, sentence level and text level, respectively.The difficulties of this translation practice, respective solutions provided by skopos theory and the translating strategies are summarized in the last part. It is shown that the combing with the other translation techniques and utilizing skopos theory in practice can help the target text to be translated more accurately and appropriately.
