A Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of My Studying Life In England

This report is based on the author's English translation of My Studying Life in England written by Fei Hsiao-Tung.Mr.Fei is one of founders of China's sociology and anthropology.My Studying Life in England mainly tells how Mr.Fei Hsiao-Tung got university support to study abroad and his study and life experience in England.In addition,it also introduced people's opinion on studying abroad,ways to study abroad and the development of sociology in China in 1930 s.Skopos theory takes function adequacy instead of meaning equivalence as its translation criterion,which allows the possibility that the same text may be translated in different ways depending on the purpose of the target text.During the translation process,the author adopted translation strategies and methods under the guidance of skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.Under the guidance of Skopos theory and the purpose of this translation task,the author analyzed from the levels of words and sentences to solve the translation difficulties in translation process.For those culture-loaded words and colloquial expressions in the source text,the author adopted domestication and free translation strategies to serve the reading experience of target readers.For those difficult sentences,on the basis of a thorough understanding of the source text,the author translated in amplification,omission and conversion methods.During the translation process,the author gave a full play of her subjectivity according to Skopos theory to produce a readable translated version for target readers at the greatest extent.
