What the author of the present report translated is one novel named Two on a Tower, written byThomas Hardy. This novel is co-translated by the author and the other six students and each studenttranslated a little more than10,000words. Chapter Six to Chapter Ten are translated by the author, and thisreport is based on her translation.This novel is classified as a romance and fantasy and mainly describes the tortuous love story betweenthe hero and heroine.This thesis is divided into three parts: the original text, the translated text and the report on thetranslation. The report includes four sections: the task description, the main theoretical basis, thedescription of translation process and the summary. On the basis of Nord’s model for translation-orientedtext analysis, the author analyzes the extratextual factors, the intratextual factors and the functionalhierarchy of translation problems respectively in the section of the main theoretical basis. The section of thedescription of translation process mainly discusses how to deal with the translation of proper nouns,astronomical terms and knowledge concerning religious culture. It also discusses how to translate thesentences relating to the depiction of a scene as well as the long and difficult sentences.
