As a practice report on Translation out of English, it describes the taskundertaken by the author in translating parts of TRANSLATION CRITICISM:Potentials&Limitations and LANGUAGE AND CULTURE (Unit2).TRANSLATIONCRITICISM is a classic book for translation research, from which an idea offunctionalism was presented by its author,Katharina Reiss.LANGUAGE ANDCULTURE is a guidance book introducing the relationship between language andculture.Introduction,analysis and conclusion have been conducted on the translating andcompleting of this project.The author briefed the importance of this project,his“pre-translating preparation”,“translating”,with focus on difficulties involved intranslating words,adjusting sentence structures and its style. In analyzing thedifficulties of translating words, the author made a table of translation terminologiesand some common words with specific expressions. The original text is mainlyfeatured by a large array of long, complex sentences, which pose some hurdles for theauthor. Regarding literary genre, the author feels that, in translating academic classicslike these two books, the biggest trouble lies in how to keep as tight and concise aswith its original text.The report is divided into four parts, brief introduction of the translation project,description of translating, difficulties and solutions while translating, and concluding.
