This paper is a summary report on the translation of the fourth chapter“Translating in global news agencies” from Translation in Global News, coauthoredby Esperanca Bielsa and Susan Bassnett. This chapter is divided into five parts: newsagencies as translation agencies, dual agency networks: local and global journalists, the nature of news translation, the translation of agency news, conclusion.Based on the text type theory proposed by Katharina Reiss, a German translationtheorist who argues in Doctor Jeremy Munday’s book Introducing TranslationStudies: Theories and Applications, that informative text should use a translationtechnique of “plain prose, explicitation as required”(Jeremy Munday,2001:113). Thischosen fourth chapter is applied to a clear method of translation. The translation mainly adopts a literal translation strategy, supplemented by freetranslation. The report falls into four parts. The first part is the task description of thetranslated material, which tells the source text of the translation material and its style;the second part focuses on the translation process; the third part is a study of thistranslation practice, following the guidance of lexical analysis, syntactic analysis, cultural difficulties in translation and rhetoric in translation; the fourth part is aconcluded summary drawn from the translation practice. By elaborately choosing andanalyzing20examples, this paper endeavors to display certain translation techniquesin translation practices, such as addition, splitting, combination, the conversion ofpassive voice to active voice and so on.
