The source text of this translation report is the fifth chapter “Journalism and translation:Practice,strategies and values in the news agencies” from Translation in Global News,coauthored by English scholar Susan Bassnett and doctor Esperan?a Bielsa.The chapter discusses the particular practices,translation strategies and values,two translation models,and views and insight of journalists themselves in different news agencies.Based on Newmark's text theory,the source text belongs to informative text.Considering the features of it,the translator,under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory,follows the principle of the literal translation,supplemented by free translation,and adopts the choice of words,lexical meaning extending,addition and verse translation,etc.to meet the targeted readers' need and enhance the rendering readability.The thesis is consists of five parts.The first part is introduction of the project,including summary of background,purpose and significance of the subject.Then,it presents the process of translation practice in the second part,which mainly contains pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The theory framework is given in the third part.Based on the informative text,the functional equivalence theory is used to guide the text translation.The most important part is case analysis in the fourth part.Analyzing and classifying the problems in the translating,and relevant translating methods are offered to solve them.The last part makes a conclusion.In the case of the translation practice,translation experience is gained and weakness is presented.
