Wolfgang Tillmans began his creation from the1980s. During his30years creation, hisworks range from portrait, still life to landscape, natural phenomena and many others.Besides these various forms of photographs, he also exerted a lot of effort on photographywithout lens and other new ways to display photographs. Therefore, his creation is not onlymaking images, but also the possibility of new vision and photography. In this way, heredefined the image, photography and display means. He not only reflected on the mechanicdimension of photography, but also the involved discourses, hence broke the hierarchy of art,photography and museums. Moreover, he attempts to decode this imagery world and evokeour perception and sensation via new-made images.This paper would demonstrate Wolfgang Tillmans’ creation in three divided parts. Thefirst part,“The facets of creation” demonstrates the three dimensions of his creation. Thesecond part,“The facets of photography” is deduced from the first part and specifies the threecharacteristics of Wolfgang’s creation. The last part,“The facets of Wolfgang Tillmans”demonstrates how his creation engages with the discourses and the situations of our time. The“Conclusion” part illustrates what insight we can learn from Wolfgang Tillmans.
