With the accelerating process of globalization,a worldwide cultural exchange reached unprecedentedbreadth and depth,this makes the teaching and studying foreign languages extremely important. In recentyears, with the increase of our country’s comprehensive national strength and status in the world and theestablishment of Confucius Institutes around the world, a "Chinese fever" was set off.Thus, teaching andstudying Chinese as a second language is regarded as an important work by more and more people. InChina, the research on teaching Chinese as a foreign language has a short history, and the research onteaching Chineseidioms to foreigners is especially insufficient.So far, the research has been focused onerror-analysis in using Chinese idioms and comparison between Chinese and foreign culture.Researches onteaching content and method in teaching Chinese idioms to foreigners are rarely seen. So we think itofgreat value and necessity to deepen the research and make up the deficiency in this domain. This researchtakes idioms derived from ancient stories as the research object, absorbsthe inspirations of the "IdiomHero" program at Henan TV and adopts high-tech teaching means to explore new teaching methods andstrategies in teaching Chinese idioms foreigners.The purpose is to raise the teaching proficiency, make itmore interesting and easy for the foreigners to learn Chinese idioms. The new methods and strategiesdiscussed here include story deductive method, graphic method, game method and on-the-spot visitlearning method, each of which includes several sub-methods which will be used intheteaching of Chineseidioms. Those are the innovations of this article.The structure of this paper is organized as the following. The first chapter is the introduction whichexpounds the purpose and significance, research status of idiom teaching and the innovation of thisarticle.Thesecond chapter elaborates the present situation of idiom teaching in teaching Chinese as aforeign language, elaborating the idiom, the importance of idiom teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage and pointing out the problems existing in the Chinese idiom teaching to foreigners.The third chapter expounds the enlightenment got from the program of Idiom Hero. The fourth chapter elaborates indetailthe new teaching method in teaching Chinese idioms and some teaching cases. The fifth chaptersummarizes the points of view of this research.
