| Throughout extensive and profound Chinese culture, idiom, as agem in the language collections, is a fixed phrase accumulated by5000-year history which convey penetrating ssmeaning in concise form.If international students want to learn Chinese or have a betterunderstanding of Chinese culture, to learn and master of the idiom is anunavoidable. In teaching Chinese as a second language, there exists onequestion which we must think about. That is “how and what shouldteachers teach regarding idiom?†This essay aims at contributing toidiom teaching in Chinese teaching as a foreign language throughrelevant research.The first chapter introduces the beginning, scope of the study, as well as background. The second chapter analyzes the five current“Outlineâ€, three mainstream textbooks as well as questionaries forinternational students. The third chapter discusses contents and selectioncriteria for idiom teaching. The fourth chapter provides suggestions forteachers, current textbook compilation and teaching methods.
