C-E Translation Of Acupuncture And Moxibustion Terminologies From Functional Equivalence Perspective

The thesis aims at relatively ideal translation principles and methods on acupuncture and moxibustion terminologies, through collecting, generalizing, comparing and analyzing current C-E translation on acupuncture and moxibustion terminologies in traditional Chinese medicine terminologies, to make strategy of C-E translation in the filed; to explore problems in current C-E translation on acupuncture and moxibustion terminologies, discussing reasons and whether it is possible to avoid; through aid by references, to establish relative reasonable paradigm of basic C-E translation on acupuncture and moxibustion terminologies, through the effort, to provide references for research and revision of C-E translation on acupuncture and moxibustion terminologies, even on the entire TCM terminologies.Based on BASIC THEORY NOMENCLATURE OF TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE issued by China National Standardization Management Committee in2006, and International Standardization Nomenclature of TCM from WHO Western-Pacific region, to compare C-E translation on acumoxi terminologies in different textbooks both at home and abroad, with BASIC THEORY ON TCM (Wu Dunxv, Shanghai, Shanghai Scientific and Technical Publishers,1994) as reference, with aid of related dictionaries, through research and comparison, the thesis is a complex combination between theories on TCM and medical knowledge, gaining pros and cons of different translation work, in order to confirm ideal translation texts. Concise and exact translations work is required for scientific C-E translation, and this is number one consideration and key to measure whether it is successful or not for a translation work, and C-E translation on acumoxi terminologies are non exception. Nida’s theories, such as functional equivalence is essential to conduct translation activity of C-E translation on acumoxi terminologies. Among vast terminologies on acumoxi, some have been already confirmed, such as acupuncture and moxibustion, meridians and collaterals, while others are still to be discussed, such as channels of hand and foot in three yin and yang. With conciseness as topic, convenience and faithfulness as purpose, possibility of standardization of C-E translation on acumoxi terminologies is confirmed.
