With its integration into the international market, and more remarkably the entry to WTO, China has entered a new stage of reform and development. More Chinese engineering companies have opportunities to do business with foreign organizations at the international market, and Civil Engineering concerning foreign affairs has undergone an unprecedented prosperity. The globalization of Civil Engineering has become an irreversible trend. As a medium of communication, Civil Engineering English to some extent has the direct bearing on the development of Civil Engineering. In this respect, the author, with her interest in Civil Engineering translation selects the translation of English for highway and bridge in the field as the target to study and for doing practice report. As a practical writing of science and technology, CEE texts are mainly used to deliver technological information, describe construction regulations and processes. It follows that translation of Civil Engineering should fully embody its features aiming at precision, accuracy as well as logic, and simultaneously give sufficient consideration to the literate levels and acceptability of target readers. Accordingly, three principles of Skopos theory are applied to guide the translation practice, that is, the Skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule, and more importantly translation strategies are explored to solve the lexical and syntactical difficulties through case studies such as explanation, linear translation, reverse translation, reconstruction, division, transformation of nominalization and so on.This report can mainly be divided into five parts:The first part offers the background information as well as significance of the translating practice in Civil Engineering English; the second part provides the domestic research status on CEE translation and its theoretical guidance; the third part is the task description, which introduces the stylistic and linguistic features of CEE and then describes preparation phase, translation phase and revisal phase in detail; the fourth part explores difficulties on lexical and syntactical level encountered in translation with emphasis made on translation strategies to cope with problems through detailed analysis of case studies; the fifth part sums up rewarding experience, as well as problems and limitation in translating. It is the author’s sincere hope that the report can shed light on the Civil Engineering English translation and make a little contribution to improving CEE translation in China.
