This thesis is a translation project report for business license contract between the client Luoyang Juhui Investment Inc. and XX Company (the world’s advanced car manufacturer Aston Martin’s brand series phone shell maker). As for the author’s part of translation, there are18,000English words in the original contract and it has taken the author10days before the translation had been completed, the target text consists of26,000Chinese characters. A tight schedule, highly professional text and potential legal disputes can be obstacles for this translation task. The client invites a team of translators. The author is proud of being a member working jointly with other translators by consulting all necessary documents and files, using translation tools to solve linguistic and professional problems.Contract translation has been studied from many perspectives such as stylistic and Skopos Theory, and a lot of translation strategies and principles are put forward to guide the translation practice of commercial contracts. While few papers make a detailed introduction to the difficulties and solutions in the process of translation. At present, Functional Equivalence theory has extensively been applied in a variety of fields of applied translation such as advertising translation, film translation and trademark translation, etc. However, when it comes to commercial contract translation, few people have published their essays on this issue, let alone in-depth researches. The author holds that Functional Equivalence theory is more fit for the translation of this contract and thus sheds light on contract translation.Through studying, the author argues that three aspects need improving:the distinction between specialized terms and non-specialized terms; a concise wording and interpretation of a long English sentence; an inadequate knowledge of legal profession which could not perfect the translation. Therefore, to solve these problems, the author should improve his/her English proficiency, enhance bilingual ability, strengthen professional quality and read more to have more encyclopedic knowledge.
