Since the emergence of teaching activities, educational workers and researchershave been studying and exploring teaching under the motivation of making teachingmuch better. Effective teaching has been paid great attention in teaching theories andpractices. However, the teaching of English grammar in China has always been in adilemma: first, teachers and students are not satisfied with current grammar teaching.Second, the importance of grammar teaching is ignored. In order to change the currentsituation of grammar teaching, the author intends to do some research in effectivegrammar teaching.This thesis aims to explore an effective instructional design of grammar teachingfor English majors in higher education that is based on effective teaching theories.The author hopes to improve the effectiveness of grammar teaching for Englishmajors in higher education and to provide a basic theory of grammar instructionaldesign and some concrete ideas for effective grammar teaching.In this thesis the author adopts questionnaire, classroom observation and test toobtain and analyze the first-hand data to find the answers to the research questions:1.How does students’ motivation affect grammar learning?2. What problems does theteaching of grammar in QHNU face?3. How much influence does an instructionaldesign have on students’ grammar learning?At the end of the research, the author finds:1. Students with strong motivationare more likely to learn grammar better and get high grades in tests than those withweak or no motivation;2. The current grammar teaching in QHNU is mostlyteacher-centered and lack of efficiency;3. The new instructional design has a greatinfluence on students’ grammar learning.
